Medan, November 2024 – Universitas Medan Area (UMA) has once again proven its excellence by achieving an impressive ranking as released by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) Asian University Rankings – South Eastern Asia 2025. UMA is proudly ranked #=169 in Southeast Asia, solidifying its position as one of the best universities in Medan, Indonesia.
In addition, UMA is recognized as:
- #1 Private University (PTS) in North Sumatra
- #3 among Public and Private Universities (PTN/PTS) in North Sumatra
- #169 among all universities in Indonesia
- #901 among all universities in Southeast Asia
This achievement reflects UMA’s continuous efforts to enhance its competitiveness at both national and international levels.

The Rector of Universitas Medan Area, Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng., M.Sc., highlighted UMA’s commitment to achieving global recognition in higher education.
“This accomplishment is the result of hard work and dedication from the entire UMA academic community. We are continuously transforming by driving innovation in education, research, and community service. Our strategic initiatives aim to strengthen UMA’s position as a leading institution, not only in Indonesia but also internationally,” said Prof. Dr. Dadan Ramdan, M.Eng., M.Sc.

Vice Rector for Research, Publications, and Partnerships, Dr. Ir. Rahmad Syah, M.Kom., IPM., Asean Eng., explained UMA’s approach to improving its performance in key ranking criteria.
“Our focus is on enhancing UMA’s research output, international collaborations, and academic reputation. By prioritizing impactful research, increasing outbound and inbound student exchange programs, and strengthening global partnerships, UMA is building a strong foundation for sustainable growth in rankings and contributions to society and industry. These efforts align with UMA’s strategic plan, vision, and mission for the future, particularly through the ECOSEC SusDev UMA Program,” explained Dr. Ir. Rahmad Syah, M.Kom., IPM., Asean Eng.

The Chairman of the Haji Agus Salim Education Foundation (YPHS), Drs. M. Erwin Siregar, MBA, expressed his full support for UMA’s achievements and its commitment to advancing higher education in Indonesia, also UMA has a concern in green campus environment through GreenMetric program.
