Know what type of audience you will be talking to. If you can, try to learn who will be listening to you. If possible, greet them as the enter the room and ask their names. Getting familiarized with some of the audience can make the event feel friendlier.
Never take a drink of alcohol prior to making a public speech. It may appear to be a good idea, but it really isn’t. You don’t want to stand behind the podium feeling tipsy because you may forget what you want to say or your speech may be slurred.
